Taking responsibility for all of our future

WHY IT REMARKETING MAKES SO MUCH SENSE – FOR EVERYONE!

Companies whose IT landscape needs to be technically up to date often replace their IT systems after only 2 to 3 years of use.

As a result, numerous IT devices are replaced and the old devices are disposed of, even though they would still be functional for years to come.

SEIZING OPPORTUNITIES INSTEAD OF WASTING RESOURCES

Reuse and recycling are in any case the smarter and more ecological way forward, especially since the raw materials needed to manufacture IT hardware are scarce resources. It’s no coincidence that the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) stipulates the “protection of environment and health” as well as the “conservation of natural resources” – and urges us to “reduce the amount of waste by reusing it”.

What one person no longer needs can be of great use to another if it is comprehensively refurbished. In this way, IT remarketing enables schools, social institutions, financially weaker consumers and people in developing countries, among others, to enter the world of modern communications technology at a reasonable price.

In keeping with this philosophy, we at Second IT have set up our processes in such a way that they are as resource-conserving and energy-efficient as possible; statutory environmental regulations are not the benchmark but merely minimum requirements for us. This is evident in our highly efficient refurbishment methodology. It enables a very high percentage of equipment to be reused, thus conserving resources that would otherwise be needed to manufacture new hardware.

In short, the sustainable use of natural resources is not just part of our business model, but a matter close to our hearts. By acting sustainably, we assume responsibility – in ecological as well as social terms: towards you, our suppliers and employees and also towards future generations.

GO GREEN WITH US!

According to a study by the German Federal Environment Agency*, a new notebook that is 10% more energy-efficient would have to be used for more than 80 years until its energy-related manufacturing costs are compensated for compared to the old device.

This example impressively shows that it is not the daily use, but the production of new devices that does the most damage to the environment: for example, up to 20,000 liters of water are consumed in the production of a single PC alone.** If you consider that several hundred million new PCs leave the production facilities every year, it quickly becomes clear how important green IT is for the ecological balance of our planet.
